APICS Atlanta - 2009/2010 Student Paper Competition

The submission deadline for the 2009/2010 competition is February 15th, 2010.

 Are you an undergraduate, graduate or Ph.D. student? Are you interested in a career in operations management, including production, inventory, supply chain, materials management, purchasing or logistics? If so, submit a paper to the APICS Atlanta annual student paper competition.

 APICS is known globally for its outstanding training, recognized certifications and international network of industry professionals.

 APICS Atlanta would like to encourage students in a broad range of academic disciplines to become active participants in the rapidly changing world of operations management. To promote this goal, APICS Atlanta offers students the opportunity to submit a paper to be considered for public recognition, publication of the winning papers in the APICS Atlanta monthly newsletter, and a stipend to be used towards their education.

First Place

 $300 cash. Recognition at the annual Student Night which will be held on April 20th, 2010. Publication of the winning paper in the APICS Atlanta newsletter. An APICS logo shirt.

 Second Place

 $200 cash. Recognition at the annual Student Night which will be held on April 20th, 2010. Publication of the winning paper in the APICS Atlanta newsletter.  An APICS logo shirt.

 Third Place

 $100 cash. Recognition at the annual Student Night which will be held on April 20th, 2010. Publication of the winning paper in the APICS Atlanta newsletter. An APICS logo shirt.

The objective of the student paper competition is to effectively demonstrate the student understands an area of interest that is important to APICS. The topic of the paper should be within the broad areas of operations and/or supply chain management.

One topic suggestion is:

“Are there core industries that the U.S. should not allow to disappear from our shores, 

e.g. if we lost all textiles and apparel manufacturing would our military be seriously hampered?”

Areas of interest to APICS are:

  • Production

  • Inventory Control

  • Supply Chain

    • Procurement

    • Demand Planning

    • Supply Planning

  • Logistics

    • Warehousing

    • Transportation

  • Information Resources

The APICS Atlanta Student Paper Committee will review all submissions and the winners will be notified in mid-March. Winners will be recognized at the April 20th, 2010 Professional Development Meeting. Winning papers will subsequently be published in the monthly newletter as determined by the Editor of the APICS Atlanta newsletter.

Criteria for evaluating submissions:

  • Demonstration of understanding of the current operations management environment.
  • Knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of the existing infrastructure and possibilities for improving and expanding these capabilities.
  • Innovation and depth of knowledge
  • Writing quality and presentation.

Submission:

Submit papers in Microsoft Word format as an email attachment.

The Subject in the email should be APICS Student Paper Competition. The body should include your full name, academic affiliation, current year in school, major, address and phone number.

Papers should be submitted to studentpaper@apicsatlanta.org no later than midnight February 15th, 2010.

Incomplete and unformatted submissions will not be considered.
